Congress imperils wild horses.
YOUR CALL IS CRITICAL

Once again the House of Representatives has inserted a bill in the 2019 Appropriations bill introduced by Congressman Stewart (UT) that already passed through committee allowing the Bureau of Land Management the authority to sterilize wild horses in the field, permanently ending reproduction. Today the Senate Interior Sub Committee on Appropriation takes up the same language passed in the House - to permanently sterilize wild horses and burros.

HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DO:
https://contactsenators.com/

• Contact YOUR Senators and ask them to keep wild horses safe on public lands by NOT permanently sterilizing wild horses and burros.

• Let them know that when horse families are kept intact and not destroyed, they themselves limit their reproduction as noted by the 16 years of studies that ISPMB has conducted on their herds. This is called "natural management."

• Let them know that under the best of circumstances that ISPMB's horses increased at a rate of less than 10% as compared to BLM's rate of 20%.

• LET THEM KNOW THAT THERE IS NO OVERPOPULATION of wild horses because there is the same number of horses today as there were in 1971 when the ACT passed. (57,040 COUNTED DURING THE FIRST CENSUS- BLM HAS NOT COUNTED AND ESTIMATED 70,000) Without a count, we estimate that presently there should only be 30,000 animals.

• Let them know that you do not support any kind of birth control because their numbers are threatened.

• Let them know that the majority of American's want to see healthy populating herds on public lands.

• They can contact ISPMB @605-430-2088 for more information.

HOW THIS HAPPENED:
When many of the humane groups supported and advocated birth control of animals on public lands and received millions of dollars in grants for such, the message sent to the public is that horses are OVER POPULATING the landscape. They in essence supported BLM's message of the past twenty years that horses were overpopulating which is not true.

The humane groups should have united and supported ISPMB's vast knowledge, our studies, and position that numbers of animals now are below the numbers first counted in 1974.

That 75% of the herds do not have enough animals in their herds to be genetically viable.

That we have lost nearly HALF the herd areas recognized in 1971 – meaning there are no longer any animals in the herd areas designated by Congress.

THIS IS A TRAVESTY AND ISPMB WILL NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO AMERICA'S WILD HORSES AND BURROS!

YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER! PLEASE DONATE BELOW AND HELP US STOP THE BLM AND CONGRESS.
