36,000 Wild Horses Threatened by latest action of Congress

As we enter this holiday season, I couldn’t help thinking about the joy that surrounds this time of year.

Yet, while we were enjoying our holiday, America’s wild horses are facing one of the most perilous situations yet.  Congress removed the protections that prohibit the wanton slaughter of thousands of horses thus putting 36,000 wild horses, held in pastures in the Midwest, at risk of inhumane destruction.

We cannot let that happen.  Wild horses are our heritage.  They are the living embodiments of our freedom.  They are too precious to lose.

ISPMB will not stand idle in the face of this latest assault on our wild horses.   We will again take up the mantle of leadership to fight to save the remaining wild horses and burros in our country.  We have already begun by reaching out and planning with our sister organizations to support the anti-slaughter bill in Congress.

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1971 law this year on December 15th, we will be tireless in our efforts to save the last of our wild horses and burros just as we did then with the help of our first president, Wild Horse Annie.

You can support our efforts in two ways:

  • First write your Congresspersons and tell them when they return to Washington that you want them to stop the slaughter of all horses by sponsoring HR 2966 and S-1176;
  • Second, make a year end, tax-deductible donation to support our campaign to stop this dreadful threat of destruction of wild horses.

With your help, we can do this together.  Please join us in our fight to save our legacy, our symbols of freedom, – our wild horses and burros.

Sincerely,

Karen A. Sussman
President, ISPMB
