Both men share a passion for the West and for saving endangered wild horses. Michael Blake has written seven books, including the novel and screenplay for the Academy Award-winning film, Dances with Wolves. The multi-media performance features speaking on Michael Blakes published and unpublished works, including his new book, Twelve the King, published in June, 2009 by Perceval Press. Twelve the King tells the story of Blakes passion to save wild horses and his love for an adopted wild stallion. John Coinman has recorded four CDs, including the critically acclaimed, Songs from the Modern West. His music literally oozes the southwest in a style he calls Desert Noir. John Coinman was named Songwriter of the Year in Tucson and voted Best Local Performing Songwriter in a citywide readers poll. Proceeds benefit the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros. The evening promises tales of wild horses, plaintive border ballads, haunting tales of love and High Plains Rock, all with a shot of twang. It was there in Roswell, NM in the mid-1960s that Michael met an aspiring songwriter named John Coinman. The two have remained close friends ever since. Living in Los Angeles in the 1980s he began writing screenplays and was encouraged by another friend, a then unknown Kevin Costner, to turn an idea for a story about Indians into a novel. The result was the publication of Dances with Wolves in 1988. As Kevin Costners star began to rise he once again encouraged Blake to turn the novel into a screenplay. In late 1990 the film written by Blake and based upon his novel, was released to international acclaim. In 1991 Michael Blake won every major award for his screenplay for Dances with Wolves, including an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Silver Spur. Of the protagonist in the film, played by Kevin Costner, Blake later told a reporter, ''I created Lieut. John Dunbar so I could see the buffalo. So I could be friends with a wolf. So I could have a horse I loved.'' Following the success of Dances with Wolves, Michael continued to write while using his newfound fame to save endangered wild horses. In 1991 he adopted two wild horses from Nevada. His love for one of those horses, named Twelve, is the subject of his seventh book, Twelve the King. The book details Blakes struggle, respect and love for Twelve, a wild herd stallion. Blake recalls, I named him Twelve because on a scale of one to ten, he was a twelve. A decade of public service followed, resulting in the Eleanor Roosevelt award for work with minorities, the Animal Protection Institutes Humanitarian of the Year and many others. Michaels novel, The Holy Road, the sequel to Dances with Wolves, is in development for a feature film. JOHN COINMAN Singer/songwriter John Coinman wrote his first song by age 12 and at 17 made his first recording at Norman Pettys studio in Clovis, New Mexico, the same studio where Buddy Holly recorded his hits. By his own estimate Coinman has written about 400 songs during his music career. Along the way he worked with Dances with Wolves writer Michael Blake, The Doors John Densmore, Kevin Costner, James Intveld, and countless other actors and musicians. Coinman was enlisted by Kevin Costner to serve as supervisor of Indian music for the film Dances with Wolves. John later contributed songs and played a musician in Costners film The Postman. John Coinman recorded his first solo CD, The Man Called Someone, in 1997. The album is filled with evocative border-bred country folk. The Arizona Daily Star called it, the sort of expansive music one imagines played during the panoramic dreams we have of the South-West, and the Tucson Weekly called it, understated and assured with just the right amount of twang. A second solo CD, 41 Crosses, followed in late 1999, gaining airplay on college and independent radio stations. River of Fire was released in 2001 to much critical acclaim. In the meantime he was voted Best Songwriter in Tucson in 1999 and Best Performing Artist a year later. His first major European release on CoraZong, This Place Aint What It Used To Be, was a compilation of songs from all three of his solo CDs. His current release, Songs From the Modern West, received critical acclaim from critics and lovers of Americana music. John Coinman currently tours North America, Europe and Japan as singer/songwriter and music director with Kevin Costner and Modern West. # # # #LMTbyz ڿ{gSg?2hFm{h>uOJQJ^J&htohto5CJOJQJ\^JaJ&htohto5CJ$OJQJ\^JaJ$&htoh>u5CJ$OJQJ\^JaJ$ hK&5CJ$OJQJ\^JaJ$"htoh>u5CJ(OJQJ\^J"hFm{h>u5CJ(OJQJ\^Jhto5CJ(OJQJ\^JhFm{h>u5OJQJ\^JhG5OJQJ^JhFm{h>u5OJQJ^J h>uCJjh>uUmHnHuh>uLMz )|$]^a$gd}w$PP]P^Pa$gdF00dh7$8$H$]0^0gdF00dh]0^0gdF$a$ ]^gdto 00]0^0gdto$00]0^0a$gdto]$1$a$a S ` k % S b & ֺ֮֞tjtjt\t\tN>htohto6OJQJ]^JhtohtoOJQJ\^Jhtohto6OJQJ^JhK&OJQJ^JhtohtoOJQJ^JhtohtoOJQJ\^JaJhF6OJQJ^JaJhtohto6OJQJ^JaJh4cOJQJ^JaJhtohtoH*OJQJ^JaJhK&OJQJ^JaJhtohtoOJQJ^JaJhtoh>uOJQJ^JaJh OJQJ^JaJ& h s u v ' h o ƸƫƜqdVdI;hFh}w6OJQJ^JhFhtoOJQJ^JhFhFOJQJ\^JhFhFOJQJ^JhFhF6OJQJ^JhF6OJQJ^JaJhtohF6OJQJ^JaJhF6OJQJ^JmH sH htohto0JmH sH hh/<hto0J6mH sH htohto0J\mH sH htohtoOJQJ\^JaJhtohtoOJQJ^JhtohtoOJQJ\^J &):<ABxy,-:߰¢wgYN@6hFOJQJ^JhFm{h>u5OJQJ^JhG5OJQJ^JhFm{h}w5OJQJ^JhFm{h>u5CJ OJQJ^JhFm{h}w5CJ OJQJ^Jh 5CJ OJQJ^JhFm{h>uOJQJ\^JhFm{h}wOJQJ\^J"hFm{h}w5CJ(H*OJQJ^JhFm{h>u5CJ(OJQJ^Jhto5CJ(OJQJ^JhFm{h}w5CJ(OJQJ^JhFm{h>uCJOJQJ\^J)By-;<]^$00dh]0^0a$gd%$00]0^0a$gdF00dh]0^0gd%$00dh]0^0a$gdFgdF ]^ ]^$a$:;<CfoNen*?MTp\]`ist޸޸¸wmmcZhF5CJaJhFhF5CJhFh5CJhFha56CJhFhF56CJh%56CJh&O<h%5CJh&O<hF5CJhFha56CJhFha5CJ h%5CJ h&O<5CJ hh/<5CJ hK&5CJhFh4c5CJ hF5CJ hFhFh>uOJQJ^J *-lm*2OP0ace0?ADOaceĸĮĝ|pi_pi_hFhv\5CJ hv\5CJhd+hd+56CJ h%5CJ hd+5CJ hK&5CJh'h'56CJhFhv5k5CJ h'5CJhFhF5CJhFh56CJhFh5CJ hF5CJhFh5CJaJh%5CJaJhFhF5CJaJhF5CJaJ%e\^yth\Ph\h@hh%h%6OJQJ^JaJhv\OJQJ^JaJhK&OJQJ^JaJh%OJQJ^JaJh"Yh"Y6OJQJ^JaJhd+6OJQJ]^JaJ"h"Yh"Y6OJQJ]^JaJh"Yh"YOJQJ^JaJh"Y5CJOJQJ^Jh%h" CJh%h%CJ h%5CJhFh4c5CJhFha5CJhFh5CJ hd+5CJJ`3=JTVWX DEӵӵӣӗ|ӗl`ӗhh/<OJQJ^JaJh"Yhv\6OJQJ^JaJh"Yh OJQJ^JaJh OJQJ^JaJhOJQJ^JaJ"h%h"Y6OJQJ]^JaJh%OJQJ^JaJ"h"Yh"Y6OJQJ]^JaJh"Yh"YOJQJ^JaJh"Yh"Y6OJQJ^JaJhd+6OJQJ^JaJ$;RlmG]^`aǷ׫׫h>uh"Yh\:OJQJ^JaJh"Yh%6OJQJ^JaJh%OJQJ^JaJh%hF6OJQJ^JaJhd+hF6OJQJ^JaJhFOJQJ^JaJh"Yh"YOJQJ^JaJh6OJQJ^JaJ ^GH^_`a00dh]0^0gd%00dh]0^0gd%$00dh]0^0a$gd%(/ =!"#$% nz&.4YcPNG IHDR:6gAMAPLTEٟIDATxώ8zp) = F7aΣ8 4*ԡssaB`UۋX?B`zF2(T*u{"0*Kԙ}Q+zHN+[t1r/jU_ ~1q8# @>8Y h{q=Ķ=>p =/-`e%LGz] >O.Ow(=㮶Dc@1Zyksz@ #0\`}Ч&]~UЄxUl}8=b3v_|-;NDUlԁ@<w@6q3&&\@!uz X 麲䁡Ľ@cmzπ5qFIy % j68AL:KK*߽{7 L4vz݉NǀIT<0uM6|C'[?i W0uz `pSw}`Tbhҷ|P"X4ݮt`F`;CA^@t^d!;foCt yܣLߖ LR: ڽd=݉w EzsKDn)I`/vZx]9VDc7l\2"= Iv77@QW0Cd/{M4YֺA Ä&?|'Tp@O{ x?T708'{(ufZrcUe\g}J>SNݵ?@ZX кCה*BnM 4~:kX, lRa* \6ku}ԅ|N# /8s@Vh8gX÷smǤ4U4tnw" aZnF߲6WE 3uZWn*0JL|Hx8P7lD`w,S@Eawiݸ64no8p˯]ע݀9Oe >0f*N *!_;/0Nå*7'c<8c/`@Np*ѥ*W$w,N`()~-Pݯ4 r'0. >횧t&e\tp2zdaaoBjf$ #ۥ§w&@NeV&2P76sc>X7ؠgZIM[Ǝ#8@9 nS.XX'.`#`<'r u輪͡@+Ԉ ;)2屁8 AN%*<6S2$@ccO3;8x S'>1r*V1ا|:ʤ&}_8 @tp)Ptr/\pTf;,pk_C=&)k)Nl)p wn6۷I<Ȇ@~JnUogm/k~Еq薀k`V 4FxYKaY6=``|TaV2` Qn|.G~e!N [8) @[Ra˲G,N*p 8 @o>KKGf0!pl/8a6pxe,eq; 0NUbh;)Я)4۽ BnÔku=`9 ,@S|Ehyf\ũdr +y&{aJ_ئ.|;=`*?@9g4Po`(ND?m_4 񛅽@Ek"--Unm[c&O#^VՇ{%g\V5h^@jl_0u6I溆5nuj1o@w!~.x @rޞ?`+j5h0V ?r[:%ȴKll08G+Í,TZ p$E2s St t _@:T'$F_trF k %lWPvK~eu%K enh+.}߰F`aG`ceئ0(ym^+۱ISZ ̺l4,%TY74~RE-W`꼎QG]ְ?Os>,鲫Uج;꫋ !8!r;Op8nnVK$RN~D`1yU G86r׳GV=Zte@2C-<.s0՛o~|V2ݫIJ;*&UcXOM;O_'p.
